Soil is made up of certain elements that make soil… well, soil! The elements are clay, sand. and silt. There is also a little bit of organic or natural parts of soil.
Clay
Clay is not just used for pottery, but is in soil! Clay is made up of very fine and small particles. Plants usually have a hard time getting their roots through clay, but the clay is in small amounts in soil.
Sand
You may know sand from the beach. Sand has bigger particles than clay. Sand is very absorbent, which mans it sucks in water. Small amounts of sand is in soil.
Silt
Silt is actually tiny pieces of quartz, which is a mineral. Minerals are what plants need to survive.
Together, all of these ingredients combined creates Loam. Loam is the mix of all of these ingredients, or soil!
