Flying fish are a group of fish that are able to use their fins to glide over the water. Flying fish build up speed underwater before they jump out of the water. Then, they unfold their fins to act as wings that help them glide over water. They fly like this because they want to avoid getting eaten by predators in the water. They can fly up to 650 feet to escape an underwater predator.
