Rocks are collections of minerals and sediment. They can form in many different ways, but we are going to focus on three of the ways. The first is cooling magma. Magma from deep in Earth’s mantle flows up to the surface and solidifies as it cools down. That makes igneous rock. The next way rocks form is through cementation. Pieces of weathered rock stick together to form sedimentary rock. These rocks have layers because they were formed by existing rock that was weathered and then stuck together to form a new rock. Rocks are also changed, which forms new rocks. Existing rocks are subjected to extremes heat and pressure. That forms metamorphic rocks. These are just a few ways rocks are formed!
