Tears are water that come from our eyes. But, there are actually different types of tears: basal, emotional, and reflex. Basal tears keep your eyes from drying out. They supply nutrients and water to the outer parts of the eye. When there is dust, hair, or other debris in your eyes, basal tears flush them out. Emotional tears are still mysterious, but they usually come out when we are very happy or sad. Humans and a few other mammals are the only animals that can produce emotional tears! Reflex tears happen when a bug flies near or in your eye or when you chop onions! They are a natural reflex to things coming near your eyes. These are the 3 types of tears!
