This happens during Lunar Eclipses. A Lunar Eclipse is when the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow. The Sun is shining on the Earth and the Moon is behind the Earth. The Moon can appear to change color sometimes when it is a total Lunar Eclipse. The Moon only appears to change color on Earth. The Moon appears that way during a Lunar Eclipse because the Earth’s atmosphere bends or refracts light, which makes the Moon look like it is red or blue! This phenomenon helps create The Blood Moon. The color of the Moon, in general, can vary on many factors. This is the way the Moon looks red or blue during a Lunar Eclipse.
There is actually a Total Lunar Eclipse coming up in the U.S! It is on May 15th!
