Materials:
- Cooking oil (vegetable, olive, or corn will work great)
- Water
- Large glass jar with lid
- Small glass jar with lid
- Food coloring (different colors can be used)
- Paper towels (this experiment can get a bit messy!)
- An adult science helper!
Directions: Pour water about 3/4 of the way into the large jar. Then, pour cooking oil into the small jar and fill it up. Then, squeeze drops of different color food coloring inside of the oil. Now, close the small jar with the lid and shake it to mix everything! Make sure to have an adult help you with the oil and be careful when shaking it. Now, open the small jar and pour the oil and food coloring mixture into the water. What do you see? The food coloring should let go of the oil mixture and will look like shooting stars when it moves through the water!
