The Milky Way is a galaxy. Galaxies are large collections of stars, planets, asteroids, comets, and other space material like gases and dust held together by gravity. The Milky Way is the name of the galaxy that we live in. There are millions of more stars, planets, and other space debris in the Milky Way! The Milky Way is in the shape of a disk. It has a bar-shaped core region at the center that is surrounded by lots of stars and planets! The spirals of the Milky Way are gas, space debris, and Solar Systems that are inside of the galaxy. A supermassive black hole at the middle of the Milky Way helps keep the galaxy’s shape and sucks in the extra material around it. The black hole is thousands of times larger than the Sun! That is what the Milky Way galaxy is!!
