Asteroids are small and rocky objects that orbit around the Sun. They are smaller than planets, but are pretty big. There are lots of asteroids in our solar system. Most of them live in the main asteroid belt, a region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Asteroids are left over from the formation of the Solar System! The asteroids can be from a few feet and 100 miles long! But, they are still small so they are not considered planets. Asteroids that crashed into Earth in the early stages may have brought some of the elements for life to Earth!
